We have countless customer around the world. Some of these customers live in their house year-round, while others are seasonal homeowners. Some owners are in warmer, tropical climates, while other live up north with harsh winters. When deciding whether or not you want to keep your fish light in the water all year, you must consider a couple things; where you live, and how long you are there throughout the year.

Customers that live in warmer climates, like Texas or Florida, can keep their light in the water all year without any issues. But, if any of the customers are seasonal homeowners, they may want to consider taking their light out of the water while they are gone. We have many seasonal owners in Florida. Some of these owners take their light out while they were gone, but others keep them in the water throughout the year, but have someone keep an eye on the light for them. It is ideal having someone keep an eye on the light while you are out of town. This is just to ensure that the light is on every night. If there is a power surge, or loss of power at your dock while you are gone, the bulb cannot turn on under the water. This does not allow the bulb to clean itself off, so when you return, your bulb will be covered in barnacles or any other aquatic growth. Having a neighbor, or a friend check on it every few days while ensure your fish will keep coming, and your light will be functioning perfectly when you return.

We have thousands of customers that live up north in areas like New York, Maryland, and Canada. During the winter months, the water will obviously freeze. The bulb itself will be able to survive the cold-water temperatures, but the wire will not be able to survive the ice. All of our systems come equipped with a GFCI plug that turns the system off if there is anything wrong with it. When ice forms under the water, it tends to shift back and forth. This shifting will cut into the wires that are leading out to the bulb. Whenever there is a damage in the system. The GFCI will turn the system off, causing the light to no longer illuminate. Therefore, because of the ice formation in northern areas, customers should take their lights out of the water to protect the wire.
