This question has a simple answer. You should plug your system directly into an outlet. Not into an extension cord. Each system comes with a power cord that is 10ft long. The wires going out to the bulbs range from fifty to one hundred feet long. We designed the systems to be mounted close to a GFI outlet with the bulbs being run out to the desired length. If the system is powered using an extension cord, the GFI plug could become compromised. While being used, extension cords are often laid on the ground leading to the outlet. If the GFI plug on the system is laying on the ground and becomes wet, the plug will no longer function properly. For safety, these plugs are meant to stop working if they become wet. This is to ensure there is no power leading to the system if it is submerged in water.

We are the designer and manufacturer of these lights. Therefore, we can customize systems. If requested, we can make a dock system with a longer power cord leading to the GFI plug. This will avoid the need for an extension cord. Before purchasing our systems, customers must have a GFI approved outlet at their dock. It is NOT to run any cords from the house and run them down to the water. If you have any further questions regarding extended cord lengths, or anything else regarding our systems, please do not hesitate to call us at 855-FISH-LIGHT.
