Underwater Fish Lights are a fantastic addition to any waterfront property, attracting marine life and enhancing nighttime aesthetics. To ensure your lights remain effective and durable over time, it’s essential to follow proper maintenance practices. This guide will walk you through key steps to keep your Underwater Fish Lights in optimal condition.
1. Regular Cleaning
Nutrient-rich marine environments can lead to the accumulation of algae and mineral deposits on your fish lights, which can diminish their brightness and effectiveness. To prevent this:
- Routine Inspection: Periodically check your lights for any buildup.
- Gentle Cleaning: Our bulbs are self cleaning, but if you notice some marine growth on the bulbs, we suggest soaking the bulbs in white vinegar overnight, and wiping the bulbs down with a clean cloth. Be sure to only put the bulb and cage in the white vinegar, and keeping the housing and sealant dry.
2. Wire Shield
Cut and nicks in the wires leading to the bulbs is one of the most frequent causes of damage. These nicks and cuts are caused by people fishing around the lights. If you are on a canal, it is very likely people will be fishing at your light. Even if you don’t fish your light, some fishermen may come by on boats and fish near your light. So, it’s best to purchase Wire Shield for each of your light assemblies to keep your light protected. Wireshield offers an extra layer of protection for your wire. So, if someone does nick the wire, or even get their fishing hooks snagged, your wire will stay safe from damage.
3. Ensuring Bulb Cage Integrity
Bulb cages safeguard the light bulbs from physical impacts and debris. All of our new systems since late 2019 include bulb cages to help protect your light bulb. If you have an older light, no need to worry, you can purchase the Original Cage to help protect your light. If you’re not sure if your light has a bulb cage on it, or what type of bulb cage you’ll need, feel free to give us a call!
4. Seasonal Considerations for Florida Homeowners
If you’re a seasonal resident in Florida and plan to be away during the winter months, it’s advisable to take specific precautions:
- Removing the Light: Before leaving, carefully remove the underwater fish light from the water, unplugging the light system before removing the lights from under the water.
- Proper Storage: Clean the light thoroughly and store it in a dry, safe location to prevent damage from environmental factors.
- Pre-Use Inspection: Upon returning, inspect the light for any signs of wear or damage before reinstalling it.
5. General Maintenance Tips
- Monitor Performance: Keep an eye on the light’s brightness and color. Also, make sure the light is coming on every night. If your light is off for extended periods of time, the light will be unable to clean itself, causing marine growth.
By following these maintenance practices, you can extend the lifespan of your Underwater Fish Lights and continue to enjoy the vibrant marine life they attract for years to come.
