So, you either have a dock with an underwater light, or you’ve been thinking about getting one. While reading through the best of what Google has to offer, you notice that you keep seeing these lights referred to by many different names: dock lights, snook lights, fish lights, green lights, etc. So, the question remains; Why are dock lights called snook lights?

Snook Lights Are One Of The Most Common Names For Dock Lights

The answer to this question is simple; dock lights are called snook lights because they attract snook to your dock. The common snook is a type of marine fish commonly found in tropical waters. Many of our customers that live, or vacation in the southern United States have probably seen more than one snook at their Underwater Fish Light. You can view the common locations of snook here:

As you can see from the chart above, the snook is a very common predator fish on both the Atlantic and Gulf sides of Florida. They are also known to be seen around the gulf coast of Louisiana and Texas. These areas of the United States are the most saturated with Dock Lights (or snook lights). Since snook are such common fish in these areas, they tend to be one of the most common fish seen at dock lights.

Snook Lights Are Great For Catching Snook

Many fishermen use snook lights to help them catch snook, whether it be off their dock, from a boat, or while pier fishing. While it may seem like magic, dock lights are scientifically proven to attract snook, if they are native to the area. Underwater dock lights reflect off particles in the water, which attract baitfish. In turn, these baitfish then attract predator fish, like snook, that are looking for an easy dinner. Thanks to the reliability of Underwater Fish Lights to attract snook, they have been dubbed “snook lights” by fishermen around the world.

Dock Lights Don’t Only Attract Snook

Thanks to the food chain process we described above, dock Lights will attract any predator fish in the area. Fishermen all over the world are using underwater dock lights to attract different fish species like redfish, bass, crappie, tarpon, bluegill, walleye, perch, and so much more! If you put an underwater dock light in the water, it will attract any predator fish in the area!
